Frequently Asked Questions
If I am going to an interview to meet the disability counsellor, what should I do?
You should not go by yourself. At the very least go with a friend.
What do I do if I have difficulties with my tertiary educational institution?
See the following people:
- Disability Liaison officer at your tertiary educational institution;
- Course convenor, Head of school, Dean of faculty;
- Disability representative of a student organisation;
- The Ombudsman;
What happens if relations between myself and the Disability Liaison Officer becomes too difficult to the point where I feel it too difficult to get necessary provisions?
- Ask a third person with authority to act on your behalf;
- Contact the Student Services Manager/Unit at TAFE or University, and if necessary slowly move up the hierarchy if necessary;
- Seek legal advice;
- You may consider changing tertiary educational institutions (TEIs) if it becomes too difficult, time consuming, overwhelming, etc, and if this would be an option for you. Obviously in larger cities and states this is an option, but it is not always something that everyone can contemplate. It has worked well for some people. All TEI are different in the services they offer and how they offer them and this is something which people may want to consider researching before they decide which institutions to apply to, etc.
What happens if I find a website that claims to have a link that would take me to the Australasian Network of Students With Disabilities or Australian Network of Students With Disabilities but instead takes me to answd.com which is a commercial website or contains out of date email subscription information about ANSWD?
- Try to get in contact with the web administrator of that website or a contact who runs that organisation preferably by email;
- Direct them to the web page address as in the url in which the incorrect information is displayed;
- Direct them to www.answd.org
